Week 5: Convergence

This page is part of the content downloaded from Week 5: Convergence on Sunday, 29 June 2025, 20:26. Note that some content and any files larger than 50 MB are not downloaded.

Description

Theory

Content: overview of the concept of convergence, learning how to carry out a mesh convergence study, examples of mesh convergence for different classes of Finite Elements. Advice on which element types are most suitable for solid mechanics.

Goal: being able to choose the most appropriate finite element type; being able to determine the optimal mesh size based on a convergence analysis of the relevant outputs of the model.

No tutorial this week, but an example will be demonstrated in class.

Exercise

Exo 4: exercise on how to carry out a mesh convergence study on a real part.

From this week on, groups for the exercise sessions are based on the mini-project groups (not any more by alphabetical order). See the list.

Mini project

Go on with the modeling. Your project specifications are being evaluated, feedback will be given this week.
