Introduction

Dear students,

Welcome to “Randomness and information in biological data”, BIO-369! Here is some information about the organization of the course.

Problem classes take place on Monday afternoons 3:15pm-5pm in room CE1106Lectures take place on Wednesday mornings 10:15am-12noon in room BS170.

There will be three exceptions to this regular schedule:
1- Week 1: there will be two lectures and no problem class.
2- Week 5: there will be a lecture on Monday 17/03 and a problem class on Wednesday 19/03
3- Week 11: there will be two problem classes and no lecture. This will give you more time to work on the graded numerical mini-project, which is scheduled to take place during weeks 10-11.

Material for lectures and problem classes are available on Moodle.

During problem classes, some questions are computer-based, and we strongly advise the use of Jupyter Notebooks with Python3 to solve them. There will also be a numerical mini-project that you will have to hand in using this format.

We are using Ed Discussion for class discussion outside of regular lecture hours. You are most welcome to ask questions on Ed Discussion, as well as to propose answers to other students' questions. The goal is to foster discussion between all of us, and to help you on points that are unclear. Rather than emailing questions to me or to the TAs, I encourage you to post your questions on Ed Discussion. Please follow the link below this message to access Ed Discussion.

Looking forward to meeting you and discussing with you!
