Description

Tasks for week 12

  • Understand and solve the generalized eigenvalue problem arising from free vibrations of conservative systems.
  • Interpret the physical meaning of eigenvalues, mode orthogonality, and rigid body modes in structural dynamics.
  • Apply modal analysis techniques, including Rayleigh’s quotient and subspace iteration, to extract natural frequencies and mode shapes.
  • Solve problem set 9

Access to Abaqus

To use Abaqus remotely, you can connect to the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure hosted at EPFL. Follow these steps:

  1. Connect to http://vdi.epfl.ch
  2. For better performance install the VMware Horizon client from that page. If you prefer simplicity, just use the Web virtual desktop client on that page.
  3. If you have installed VMware Horizon, launch it and click "New Server" to add the server "vdi.epfl.ch". Double click on that server in the list to start your connection.
  4. Enter your EPFL login and password (both Web and Horizon client)
  5. Click on the Virtual Machine "STI-Windows 11"
  6. IMPORTANT: at the end of your session, make sure to LOG OUT!
