Dear class,
Over the past two weeks, some very relevant news has emerged that directly connects to our class discussions:
1) Heathrow Airport & LCA Database: You may recall last week’s class where we discussed BIM & LCA as an example of past year's projects. Heathrow Airport has just partnered with an LCA database to enable automated and verified life-cycle analyses for entire projects. This allows them to assess and influence emissions from material production all the way to structure decommissioning — a very concrete and fresh example of what we’ve been exploring together (read more here: https://shorturl.at/YNSqD)
1) Following last week's class on the interplay of regulations and innovation in our field some news on Circular Economy in Vaud: Last Sunday, voters in the Canton of Vaud approved by 68% a new project for a circular economy. Among other measures, this will enshrine the principle of circular materials in the constitution, paving the way for legislation that promotes material circulatory. This resonates strongly with the examples of demolition waste valorisation we examined in class these past weeks (more info here: https://shorturl.at/Dv1YL)
Exciting times to study innovation in construction and the environment!
👉 Today’s session: Don’t miss Dr. Elena Rivera’s lecture on the energy of buildings. She will present use cases ranging from our own campus to projects in South Korea.
