Troponin is a complex of three regulatory proteins; it is present in cardiac muscle. Troponin measure is specific to cardiac damage. This protein complex is released into the blood in the case of abnormal cardiac contractions related to heart attack. The role of troponin in diagnosis has been clarified by large clinical trials.
