Final Exam

The oral exam consists of 2 questions, and the duration of the exam is 30 minutes.

The two questions are chosen from two separate pools: Pool 1 (theory part) and Pool 2 (problem solving part).

  • Pool 1 focuses on topics covered in the lecture notes and the material we discussed in class. Only results and proofs appearing in the lecture notes will be covered. This pool aims to test your comprehension of the broader concepts of the subject matter, and the questions are designed to assess your understanding of the theoretical aspects of ergodic theory.
  • Pool 2 focuses on problem-solving. The questions in this pool are taken directly from our weekly exercise sheets. You can find the solutions to all the exercise problems on Moodle.

At the start of the exam, you'll randomly draw two questions from Pool 1 and two questions from Pool 2. From the two Pool 1 questions, you can choose the one you prefer to answer, and the same goes for the Pool 2 questions.

Once your questions are determined, you'll have 5 minutes of preparation time. This is your chance to gather your thoughts and think through your answers. After the preparation time is up, we'll spend approximately 25 minutes discussing your answers to Question 1 and Question 2.  We encourage you to "think aloud" during these discussions so that we can observe your thought process.

Finally, below you will find the Assessment Sheet that is used as a rubric for evaluation and grading your oral exam. Take a look so you know what to expect.

Good luck with your exam, and remember to take a deep breath and do your best!
