Engineering of existing structures, built estate, range of most frequent issues, socio-economic aspects, sustainable development, overview of normative documents worldwide, systematic stepwise approach according to SIA 269 Annex A, material and immaterial value, requirements, terminology.

Chapter 2 - Deterioration mechanisms in reinforced concrete (I)

Classification of deterioration mechanisms, Tuutti model, exposure classes, structure of cementitious composites, transport mechanisms, chlorides, carbonation, corrosion, probabilistic approach



Chapter 3 - Deterioration mechanisms in reinforced concrete (II)

Corrosion, Cracking and effects, Freeze-thaw, Alkali Aggregate Reaction (AAR), Swelling reactions with sulfates.



Chapter 4 - Examination according to SIA 269 (Annex A steps) (I)

Stepwise approach, condition survey, principles and approach, examination, updating, verification concepts.



Chapter 5 - Examination according to SIA 269 (Annex A steps) (II)

Updating of actions (dead loads, traffic loads, climatic actions), structural analysis models, accidental actions.




Chapter 6 - Examination according to SIA 269 (Annex A steps) (III)

Updating of resistances (material properties, resistance models), verification of structural safety and serviceability.



Chapter 7 - Examination according to SIA 269 (Annex A steps) (IV)

In-depth examination, updating by semi-probabilistic analysis, required safety level, condition assessment.



Chapter 8 - Examination according to SIA 269 (Annex A steps) (V)

In-depth examination: methodology, visual survey, characterization of cover concrete properties (permeability, depth, resistivity), location of rebar, electrochemical potential measurements, GPR (Radar).

Chapter 10 - Interventions (II) - cover concrete

Realkalization, chloride extraction, cathodic protection, surface treatments, concrete restoration, applications of UHPFRC for protection.



Chapter 11 - Intervention (III): strengthening methods (I)

Overview of methods (including additional external prestressing), structural members formed of R-UHPFRC and RC, bending and shear, local effects, joints, design criteria.


Chapter 12 - Intervention (IV): strengthening methods (II)

Glued CFRP lamellas.


Chapter 13 - Intervention recommendation, proportionality and LCA

Intervention recommendation: overview, proportionality, cost-benefit ratio, LCA, recapitulation of the course contents.
