Description
Completed slides for sections 1.3 and 1.4. In 1.4.2 I detail the substitution of variables for calculating the field near the infinitely long charged line using an angle theta. In 1.4.3 we outline a symmetry analysis and calculation in 3D (hemisphere) which I will sketch tomorrow and take your questions about this.
The experiment shown is found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2TXK7xd5NM. The electrical field near the end of the charged metallic stick is so large that air molecules get ionized and then move against the flame.
