Foundation models and generative AI

So far, we have studied how foundation models can be adapted and specialized to tasks. Next, we step back and ask a broader question: can these models capture the dynamics of the world itself? In Week 12, we explore world models and generative world modeling, i.e., approaches that move toward building predictive simulators. This shift connects foundation models to reinforcement learning, robotics, and the sciences, anticipating the topics of the following weeks on reasoning, decision-making, and agentic systems.
