The quiz will take place on December 17, 2024.
It will be open between 10:30AM and 11:59AM. The link will be provided in the page of the last week (2 December - 8 December).
Presence in the classroom is not mandatory, access to any ressources is allowed during the quiz.
The questions concern Krylov subspace methods that are taught during the lectures on November 26, December 3, and December 10. The slides are already available for the three lectures. Q&A session on December 17.There will be 5 questions (1 point per question), one attempt to answer per question. Once the quiz is submitted, the answers cannot be changed anymore. All the questions are multiple-choice. Example of a question:
What is the role of the Petrov-Galerkin condition in Krylov subspace methods?
A. It determines the sparsity pattern of the matrix and differentiates subspaces used in CG and GMRES. This is why we can make a matrix triangular.
B. It ensures that at each iteration the residual r is orthogonal to a well-defined subspace L.
C. It minimizes the error in the A-norm for CG and in the 2-norm for GMRES.
D. It is a condition used only in symmetric problems for defining search directions in a minimization algorithm.
Solution: B
